“When the sun is dead, and the moon shines red.
When silent fears, bring children’s tears.
Then in the still of the night, do so many end their plight.
The watchmen from the spire, spot the Demon and his fire.
For through the dark all are led, to the Maker of the Undead.
There within his grip, their life it does slip.
So keep your eye on the moon, and pray you don’t find your doom.
When the sun is dead, and the moon shines red.”
Euphoria softly sang the tune over and over. She couldn’t get it from her head. She sat at the dinning room table eating her breakfast singing softly to herself almost in an unconscious state. Her expressionless face staring off into the room as if watching some far off vision. She was alone at the table when her mother Myhrea descended the stair and stopped, staring at her in shock as she heard the words pour from her daughter’s mouth. So long ago it was that she had heard that song. Never in this land, never since she was banished here. Now it poured from the lips of her own daughter like a nightmare from another time. Even though her own family was considered immune to the slaughter, she hated that song. It chilled the very blood in her veins. She couldn’t believe her own ears.
“Euphoria!” She screamed. “Stop that this instant! How dare you sing that song in my house at my table!”
Euphoria jumped the song stopping forgotten. She stared at her mother for a moment wondering how long she’d been there. “What song Mother? Why are you screaming at me?” She said looking rather confused.
“You were singing… that, that song. Do you not know what you were doing?” Myhrea asked her daughter.
Euphoria shook her head and then broke down crying burying her face in her hands.
“Don’t cry my love tell me what is wrong? Have you had another vision?” Myhrea said sitting next to her wrapping her arms about her in an effort to comfort her. Euphoria was her pride her joy and all she had in this world. It frightened her to hear her sing the song of her home world. It sent chills through her especially knowing that Euphoria’s own father was The Maker of the Undead and he was here in this world.
“Yes. I can’t stop them. I don’t know the song. I just …. I keep hearing it. In my dreams in my waking I hear it. What does it mean Mother? What does it all mean? I have seen the red moon. I have seen death as he took some life, but who’s I don’t know he never lets me see. I see the blood. The blood and the gleam of the Red Moons light on the blade of his Scythe. He looks at me, the hood of his robe does not hide his piercing red eyes… He laughs as if he is rejoicing in something, something evil.” Euphoria tells her as she begins to sob uncontrollably. “I can no longer stop them, the visions, they never end. They never let me rest. Yet they never show me who sends them.” She said exasperated.
“Oh my daughter I wish I could stop them for you. The song, it is from my homeland. It was sung by the children all over Ra’Dashan. It is about your father. It is about our army, the army of the House of Hla-ate and the Maker of the Undead. The most feared army in all the land. You have not witnessed true terror until you have seen the devastation left by such an army. This land has never tasted such pain. I do not wish them to. Euphoria, your father raised the dead of our enemies and turned them against their own people. My brother led that army. Malag-aste held your fathers power in his hands. I watched once as they massacred an entire city leaving no living being... I saw the army of zombies tear one another apart for the amusement of the solders. So much death. I saw how it hurt your father. I don’t want to see that happen here. He doesn’t want to see that happen here. Your dreams, that song, it can only mean one thing. Someone is trying to unleash that power here.” She said her voice quaking with fear. “Try to rest, it can’t happen yet. Not now. We’ll think of something.” She told her as she slowly rose and made her way back up the stairs. “We have to think of something. I will keep you safe Xunroos. I will not let them awaken that in you.” She whispered as she entered her room. She took the talisman from its hiding place and stroked its deep black surface. “They can’t control you again. Not without this and I will not let them have it.” She said returning it to its hiding place.
